A bit about Charlotte B

I'm a qualified teacher with 6 years experience in the classroom and online teaching. My first subject is history, Ks3, 4 and 5, but I have taught geography, PRE and Sociology across KS3 and KS4 as well. My students have received excellent grades including my A2 students scoring 100% B- A*. I also have Edexcel examiner experience which I can utilise to help you develop even further. I would love to support you on your learning journey. I specialise in History in KS3, 4 and 5. I have also taught Geography, Sociology and PRE across KS3 and 4 too. I have worked both in state and private education as well as in a virtual school and in a bricks and mortar school. I have supported students with varying educational needs and have supported in SEND teaching too. My lessons are both informative and enjoyable. I plan backwards so I know where I want the student to be by the end and build in all the necessary steps to get there. I consider pace, modelling and effective questioning to ensure my students understanding. I utilise Rosenshine and Lemov in my planning and consider the importance of how we learn to ensure that a student is not overloaded with too much information each lesson. I have tutored on an ad hoc basis throughout the last 5 years alongside teaching and tutored previously during my own time in sixth form and university. I love that history is so vast, and that we can know so much and at the same time so little about a specific event. I love guiding students to find their own understanding of the past, I love that there are endless questions to be asked and explored, and there is nothing more rewarding than when a student finds their own passion for a period of history, figure or event and uses it to understand the world they currently live in. My teaching style is one that combines structure and routine with opportunity for passion and questions all the way through. I believe routine helps embed and develop a mastery of knowledge and supports successful learning. I love my subject and that is clear in all my teaching. My favourite thing is the nature of tutoring and the depth that allows you to support a student. Classroom teaching is wonderful, but sometimes in a class of 35, individualised time is not possible; tutoring allows a much more tailored approach. My teaching philosophy is that all students are different and that learning must reflect this. All students will have a different way of learning and different levels and speed of progress. Each student needs to feel heard, catered for and supported in their own way in order to succeed. Students love that they know what to expect when I'm teaching them, in the routines we build for success. They also feel that I am fair, compassionate and supportive in each of their needs and interests in every lesson. I love seeing students go from stating that they hated History, to loving it because they liked the way I taught it. My greatest success has been becoming the teacher who students run through the classroom door to, excited to be in my lessons. I believe that my passion and engagement, and the relationships I've built with my students. have helped to develop their understanding. It is wonderful to see their confidence grow and to help them improve their outcomes. Without that first step, I couldn't have got the students to their target and even beyond. I have a Masters in Medical History and Humanities. I also have a dual honours BA in History and English Lit. I have Qualified Teacher Status and am up to date with various pedagogical training and appropriate safeguarding and GDPR training. I also have examiner experience with exam boards in history. My own teachers and the passion they had for their subjects were what inspired me to become a teacher. I wanted to support students in the way I had been supported. I knew from about the age of 14 that I wanted to be a teacher and repay what I had received during my time at school. I love to travel and see historical sites in my spare time. I also enjoy baking a delicious chocolate cake. I design wedding stationery, greetings cards and colouring sets to raise money for charity and utilise my creative side. I also love to relax in the evening with a good podcast or Netflix show. I have taught Edexcel both GCSE and iGCSE for history. I have taught AQA for Sociology. I have taught geography and PRE to KS3 level and examined within my trusts internal exams as well. I have taught Yr 7-13 for History. Year 10 for Sociology Year 7-9 for PRE Year 7-10 for Geography
