A bit about Marina P.

I have been awarded a BA in Classics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2016 (distinction), an MA in Classics from University College London in 2019 (distinction) and I am currently a second-year PhD candidate at UCL. I have a high level of ancient Greek and Latin and an excellent knowledge of Classical Civilisation and Classical Literature. I teach both Greek and Latin from beginners to advanced levels. Before starting my PhD, I gained valuable UK classroom experience. From 2019 until April 2020, I was teaching Latin, ancient Greek, and Classical Civilisation in public/preparatory schools. Also, for the past 5 years, I have successfully delivered courses as a tutor in ancient Greek, Latin, and Classical Civilisation to students in the UK (2017-present). I achieved the improvement of the students’ school performance and their success in scholarship and 13+ entrance exams (Eton College, Harrow, Westminster School, and St. Paul’s School), or national level examinations (GCSEs and A-Levels). I have good experience in giving advice on personal statements and research proposals for university admission. I teach the Advanced ancient Greek seminar in the UCL Department of Greek and Latin. Also, I taught intensive courses of ancient Greek in the UCL and KCL Summer Schools. For every lesson I teach, I develop the scheme of work, the lesson plan and teaching materials using slides to prepare and deliver teaching, reacting, and adapting to student needs. Additionally, I use assessment methods to monitor and track the students’ learning and progress, giving detailed feedback to my supervisors. After each lesson, I give homework and feedback to students to make sure they revise and try to fill in any learning gaps before the next lesson. I really enjoy teaching Classics and passing on my passion for Greek and Latin! I, also, love reading, and doing research in my subject area (ancient Greek poetry: Sappho). In my free time, I particularly love playing the piano and listening to music. I really enjoy watching a good film or going to museums and the theatre. Last but not least, I love spending time with my lovely little dachshund dog, Troufa!
