A bit about Anna S

I am a Teacher of English in a secondary school in the UK. I have been teaching for 6 years with 4 years of experience of coaching young people of all ability levels through GCSE English. I deliver bespoke teaching and will push you to achieve your highest potential in a warm environment. I aim to develop confidence in written and verbal communication, as well as helping to find effective reading strategies that work and are tailored to your reading level. I have worked as an examiner for AQA for the past two exam series, both on English Language Paper 2 and on English Literature Paper 1: the 19th Century Novel. I have a strong understanding of the skills needed to be successful at GCSE and will work hard with you to ensure that you feel prepared, with a clear understanding of the demands of each paper. I am a keen reader with a real passion for my subject. I hope to share my excitement about texts and characters with you: everyone should take pleasure in a good story! Whatever your confidence level in English, I can help you to present your ideas with increasing clarity and help you to feel successful. I have been teaching in UK secondary schools for 6 years, working with students from many different backgrounds to help them achieve excellent outcomes at GCSE. I have experience of teaching to AQA and Edexcel exam boards at KS4 and 2 years of experience of working as an examiner for AQA. Therefore, I can help you to understand what examiners are looking for when they mark your paper, as well as helping you to develop good reading strategies and exam technique when responding to questions. I want to help you to be an able communicator; therefore, I will be guiding you through tasks and you, as much as possible, will be leading on ideas and written work. I can give you strategies to help to attain the next level and then we practise these until they become embedded, before we start again. I am warm and enthusiastic, with ample of experience of adapting teaching for students with a wide range of needs. It does not matter what your starting point is; I can use scaffolding, a faster/ slower pace, modelled examples, mark schemes and shorter tasks to keep up momentum and your growing confidence. I have tutored for a year and a half. I enjoy being able to work one-to-one with a student as I feel that it is easier to personalise lessons and make quick progress. I have experience both from delivering online learning through school and from my own tutoring lessons in how best to utilise the session to maximise progress from week to week. I have excellent competence with IT skills and four years' experience of delivering content online.
